Is there a battery in the slave unit? I've never seen the slave boards.
I got a brand new "old" AA set still in the box.(G scale) I figure I should charge it since it's been in the box for years. 2004!

I was going to use my external charger to keep the unit un-run. Then it hit me. What about the trailing A???

Joe, if that unit was made in 2004, I wouldn't even bother trying to charge it. A battery sitting for 11 years without being recharged is most probably shot.

I agree with RJR about the battery.
None of the O gauge trains have a battery in the slave unit and I doubt G scale slaves has them neither as the slave board doesn't have any settings.

I was probably over thinking it. At first, I guessed there wasn't a battery because there's no address or settings to remember. Then, I was wondering about how it would "keep alive"? So I started thinking there might be some battery.
The manual that came with it says they're good for about 5 years or more. Some of mine are ten years old. I wonder if not being used is better or worse on it?
Funny to me is they look like 2 single AA's that would be in a solar light or something.
Guys are big on BCR's but I had one engine that wouldn't charge it well. Left me second guessing whether to keep swapping them out.
I have several PS2 locos with 2.4 volt batteries (two AA size, blue wrapper) that are 10 years old and still running, but they have never sat for long.
Some early PS-2 used individual AA batteries. If not used, they should take a charge. Nothing to loose on a PS-2 3V as long as they are not shorted. G
