Construction Has Begun!

I have finally begun construction of a layout module!  Behold :

Shown is the HO level.  Above it is where I want to put the O gauge trains—which is where my questions and concerns come in.

I intend on using the same 2x4' sections for O gauge as for the HO level.  I am thinking about attaching 2x4s (or doubled-up 1x4s as suggested by my dad) to the rear, and then using shelf brackets to support the upper module.  My big concern is will this mounting system be of sufficient strength to support the significantly heavier O gauge locomotives?

GC, I have a 11"x20: railroad and I also used the 2x4 style modular system. I used 1x3 for the table and 2x4's for the legs. All rafters are 12: on center. I just screwed the model to the wall studs. Most of my tables are really 4x12,for extra scenery. I have knelled on top of the layout with no problem(240lbs). Could i suggest a height of 48-50inches that way you can easily duck under or sit under the modules when wiring your layout. Mike

The HO level is a little over 52 inches high already to clear other obstacles in the room.  The O gauge level will go roughly one foot above it.  It may require a step stool to comfortably view, but that's the best way right now to squeeze everything in.

I purchased shelf brackets yesterday, and hope to get the second level done by the end of the week! (Sans track and scenery.)
