Dale has described the best way to set up track so that two trains running at once will not catch one another. Done right it assures they will remain spaced out on the track.  Another way is to go to Legacy or DCS and use their controller.  But the first method requires some amount of skill and time and effort to build.  The second costs a goodly amount of money and won't work unless you buy locos made to run on Legacy or DCS.. 

 

In the link below, I summarized a method that require neither a lot of money or lots of time and effort, but has considerable limitations.  Still, it works as shown.  You can read this and consider it for what is is worth.
