Re: Converting PS-1 Engine to TMCC

I am standardizing on Lionel Legacy as my layout control system. I have a couple of MTH PS-1 engines. I would prefer to avoid the "Set M, Train #, Aux 1, 9,8" startup procedure, if possible. I have successfully converted a Williams Trainmaster engine to TMCC control using an Electronic Railroad Co. Cruise Commander board. Is this approach to use with an MTH PS-1 engine or is there another method? I have also considered just selling the PS-1 engines and purchasing new Legacy engines as replacements.

Yes. Might have a couple of extra things you need to do for the lighting and smoke units but otherwise pretty straight forward. You could just buy different engines but if you like what you have then just convert it.

You can convert to TMCC but you can't easily retain the sounds. If you don't care about the sound set you can use ERR parts to switch to TMCC, either cruise or non cruise.

True, but it would be a great reason to get some of the new Railsounds boards from ElectriRR.

Don't ERR steam kits require something be attached to an axle to get the necessary chuffs? I've install ERR diesel kits but no steamers.

Yes, kit includes a reed switch and a neodymium button magnet. You can get additional magnets at Radio Shack if you want more chuffs per axle turn.
