Is there a method of connecting a modular tmcc sound mother board to a modern ERR cruise commander?  Lionel #6-28018, Reading 4-6-0 Camelback.  Just trying to add cruise to this sweetheart without having access to a CCM or ERR Sound card.  Otherwise, I wait for new product.  TIA!

First off, fitting the CC into the camelback may be an issue, it's pretty tight in there.  I did a couple of these with the CC-M, I had to move connectors on the motherboard to make everything fit.  The issue was where connectors attached to the two boards, the DCDR and the CC.  If you use the full CC, you would have to rewire all the stuff for the motherboard, doable, but not simple.

I suggest waiting for the CC-M, it's a more straight-forward installation.  It's more work than a standard CC-M install, but not nearly as much as rewiring everything.

Thanks John,

i was hoping it was as simple as re locating a few wires.  The tether's connections are where things get confusing for me and I wondered if it was something simple I was missing.  The entire can of worms sure justifies the invention of the CCM.

With a modified heat sink I can fit the CC in the boiler on its side, much like the DCDR/MB and R2LC are positioned, with more room remaining for connections and maybe the addition of a safely isolated fan driven smoke unit.  This would avoid seriously cluttering up things inside as with the original components.  Add an ERR sound card and get rid of the mess in the tender then all that's required is redirecting wires from the tether.

If you find any glaring errors in this method of attack feel free to comment.  Either way it appears I'll be out about $100 when done.

No glaring errors, it's just getting the wiring sorted out.  As long as you're familiar with the TMCC wiring, you can track it down and sort it out.  It's just a lot more work to replace the existing TMCC setup with the CC.

There are only four wires as I recall in that tether, serial data, Ground, backup light, and coupler.  The only wild card is sometimes you end up with the old RS board sucking too much juice from the serial data line and the Cruise Commander runs away.  When that happens, I add this buffer to the line going to the RS4 board.
