I have seen many custom paint jobs on this forum that look extremely well done. Can anyone make a recommendation on who to contact. I would like to have some freight cars and Lionel diesel shells painted. Thanks

Eric, I have had Jeff78 do all mt custom painting. Some time back he stopped painting to have more time with is kids. I have not asked him if he is back to painting. You might email him and ask. If he is not painting he may be able to stear you in a direction. Good luck.
Popsrr, Thank You
I paint--primarily brass models. email in profile--
Eric, I do extensive repainting but for myself only. The majority of my trains are repaints. I would STRONGLY urge you to be sure you can FIND decals or find a custom decal maker (and you can afford custom made decal prices) before you do any repaints.
Repaints today are still easy. Finding O scale decals you want today, is another story.
I do custom paint jobs on my trains since I paint cars for aliving..all my trains and r/c race boats are all done with automotive paints
Yes...decals may be a problem. Luckily, for my private road name I had a quantity
of decals made in two colors years ago at reasonable cost, however, now I am looking to get some prototype but unavailable decals made, and may be soon finding out what that will require. There are quantity limits that may exceed the few pieces of rolling
stock you want to refinish. (repainting HAS had some surprises in it, with compatibility of new paint with factory paints)
There are no compatability issues when you strip the old paint off. That is the proper way.

Decals:
I have two fellas that make custom decals for me on a regular basis. This is a more challenging issue, but can be handled.
I got a friend that does custom signs and graphics shop..he just did these for me..Im customizing a 3rd rail PRR Q2 6184 to the 6131..just done to longer side skirts on it and adding more detail to it..Wished 3rd rail make up there minds on the colors on there PRR steamers...I have to a complete repaint on it because its lighter then my S1 and S2...my friend only charged me 10.00 for the decals.said he made me 2 sets just in case Id mess up putting them on..lol told him Id been painting cars and putting on decals and graphic for 33+year...
Len Carparelli who is famous for his post war restorations also does custom roads. If you can find him, Elliot Welz does outstanding painting. The guys at Hobby Horse in Indiana also do painting and restorations.

Now that's not a bad way to go- for single color! The semi transparent top sheet indexes the stickers so the spacing stays correct...burnish them on thru that and then slowly peel it off- viola.

The RailRunner project was rather complex requiring a substantial amount of detail work. This required the services of one of the best in the business. So like Carl has suggested, Harry Heike was more than up to the task.
I have used Jeff Sohn in the past, but as far as I know, he is not doing custom work at this time.

The great Elliot Welz is alive and accepting work. One of the best, for sure. Googol his name and you should be able to find him. He's a very well-informed train veteran with a solid sense of humor.
