The CSX Executive Office Cars allow for creative detailing because the "Youngstown" and "Research" Car have sparse interiors.  I expected more desks and fixtures inside the CSX business cars.  These cars provide challenges because they serve multiple purposes: excursion-promotion train, service crew train, and research testing train. I put figures representative of railroad staff work crews and test engineers in the Research and the Youngstown cars.

The Youngstown is missing two seats in the factory floor mold that are present in the other sleeper rooms.  It was fortunate that I had spare interiors from the first run of NYC ESE 21" passenger cars to use as a source of the seven seats I added to the Youngstown Car.  I also added chairs I purchased from an Ebay seller in Turkey to detail a coffee shop on my layout.  The seller also sold beds, sofas, tables, chairs, and stereos/TVs for O-gauge buildings.

Here are pictures of the rooms missing seats, the rooms corrected, and the five interior rooms that have been turned into offices.  There are also a few pictures of the CSX Dining car that is used as a staff meeting space with food and coffee available during meetings.  The "Research", "Youngstown" and "Ohio" Dining Cars are part of my short service and testing train.

Sincerely,  John Rowlen

Here are the two Coaches, "Michigan" and "Tennessee", from the CSX Executive Train.  The seats have been painted the tan that I use for most of my passenger cars.  The color accents the clothing on the Preiser Figures I painted, and it gives depth-of-field to the interior of the car.  An all blue interior makes seeing detail difficult. Though tan may not be the correct color, I believe all blue is over-powering.  Railroad colors should be accents within the car, like the blue carpet.

I have not added people yet.  I may leave them empty as they sit on a siding waiting to join the excursion train.  The coaches would be used on excursion trips, so adding women, children and the full 24 figures in the Preiser 65602 pack makes sense for the coaches.  The Youngstown, Tech Research, and Ohio Dining car make good meeting rooms and work spaces as previously shown, and they have figures representing technicians and railroad staff. The three working cars make a nice service train and help expand the larger seven-car excursion train when used for publicity trips.

I am not detailing the CSX 2-pack sleeping cars, I returned them to the dealer.  The "Youngstown" and the "Tech Research" Cars already have fifteen and three sleeping rooms in them. The two extra sleepers seem to be unnecessary for my use.  I would rather have more coaches or a lounge car for excursion trips.  I do have a Theater Car on order for my five remaining CSX cars.

Sincerely, John Rowlen
