Most of my steam collection is Imperial steam and they run like a King
Excellent runners.
Imperial
I would assume that lots of us "still have" them, as they "still make them".
Some are too cheesy, most are just fine, and some are outstanding (the RK Imperial
Triplex, the 2-8-8-2 and the UP 49'er 4-6-2 are examples). This is coming from a Scale Guy, too.
RK steamers make excellent cannon fodder for bashing projects, also (they
typically wind up with TMCC during this event). I bought a cheap, solid, well-used RK 49'er (PS1) a while back that has a Date With Destiny (paint job and ERR Cruise Commander),
as I love the shape of that loco, but have no particular fondness for the UP.
I still have my streamlined Reading Crusader, and will keep it until/if MTH makes one in the Premier line.
PRR Locosounds Bantam Turbine. Smokes like a pig, pulls like a bear.
best trains on the market-price wise-detail wise-etc
I have 1 MTH Railking 2-8-0 steam locomotive that had pulled 15 cars with no problem on a 4 x 8 layout with o-36 Fastrack curves. Smokes and runs like a champ, best $150 buy I ever made in this hobby.
I have a mohawk with locosound it was NY&OW.I painted and renumbered it for sal.Because they had some any way it will pull with the best of them.I like the way it smokes. This is no lie I had it pull a heavy train.Started out smoking pretty heavy but once it got on the way.The smoke lighten up a bit like the real thing.Well I like to thank every one here who replyed here. You can see my trains on youtube.Just go to youtube and type in 889ts.That should take you right to it.
I have a good number of MTH RailKing steamers...mostly Southern Railway and all PS2. I'll be putting most of my Southern stuff up for sale this fall, once I get around to organizing things and getting them packed up. Great locomotives and a good value, in my opinion.
Say it aint so Allan!!
My 1st Railking is my MTH Norfolk and Western Class J. I've added the QSI Class J sound set to it and the N&W water tender. I also have a Railking Southern Ps-4 which I plan to give to my son. I did have a Railking N&W PS2 Y6b but I gave it to my Dad when I made the switch to going to all scale locomotives and rolling stock.
I have my first O gauge train set, a starter set Daylight, and one of MTH's new Ten-Wheelers (planning on getting a 2nd one BTW). Unfortunately, almost all of the MTH PS2 engines I look for are never on the market...
Have the PRR 2-8-0 RK RR version. Smokes like a Marx, runs like a deer, pulls like a mule!
My first and so far only RailKing engine is a NYC Dreyfuss Hudson (20th Cent. Ltd. version). Absolutely love it, although I have yet to be able to use the smoke unit as I only have a 30-watt starter set transformer. Making the bigger engines in a size that will fit on any railroad is an excellent idea; I hope to one day get the RailKing PRR "Torpedo" K4 (green).

I think I have three - not quite sure. Bought them at least 10 yrs ago to repaint to Western Maryland. They are still unopened. Maybe someday they'll make it to the paint shop but just too many more important projects first.
I still have my RailKing S-2 Turbine with Protosounds and a BCR, still pulls anything, and works first time everytime. It is the almost scale version, same size as the Proto3 reissue, I added markers and a backup light. I like it because I have a couple MTH PRR cabooses, including an N6.
My 1st Railking is my MTH Norfolk and Western Class J.
And thus the origins of my O scale 3 rail obsession.......
I have a PS-1 Dreyfuss Hudson, and love it. Once I have all the benchwork, track, and buildings purchased for a layout, I'll be hunting the interwebs for more PS-1 steamers. I think they are a great value for the money and what you get.
I have two, a Reading Crusader and a PRR turbine. I enjoy running both of them along with my other power.
I have several and they run great and look good with scale or railking consists behind them. My roster Railking includes:
PS-1, 2 Allegheny's, K-4 pacific
PS-2, Mallet, Berkshire and Mikado
Very early MTH RK PS1 Cab Forward; updated w/TMCC EOB/RS, LEDs, etc., etc..
A smooth runner that will pull stumps out of the ground.

As this engine has been released in several fictional paint schemes, I'm surprised it hasn't been released in a New York Central paint scheme, as the styling is so close to that of the Mercury engines.
I have 4.
NYC 4-8-2 conventional in the Purple box. Was this the first Raiking steamer?
NYC 4-6-4 conventional
NYC 464 Dreyfuss PS1
PA 2-8-0 with loco sounds
I still have two (Big Boy, Triplex) and run them both at Christmas a lot. Now that I am starting a permanent layout again they will be running more than just Christmas.
I have the Imperial S-2 PRR Turbine and UP Imperial Big Boy. Great items.
All of the locomotives on my roster are Rail King, and include 22 steamers, 2 electrics, 3 diesel sets, 2 subway sets and 2 trolley cars. I consider Rail King to be the best value locomotives in O-gage!
Yes, a Dreyfuss Hudson, a Mohawk, the Blue Goose, Nickel Plate Berkshire, Erie Triplex and Nabisco GS2.
The Nabisco and Oreo boxcar is a favorite with the grandchildren.
Great engines and a wonderful value.

Yes:
Yes:
And Yes:
Although all 3 have been repainted and modified.
The 1st one is an old RailKing 2-8-0 that had Locosounds "Box-O-Rox", later upgraded to PS2.
The 2nd one is a RK Imperial USRA 0-6-0 with PS2, basically just repainted.
The 3rd one is a hybrid of sorts. It's a RK 2-8-0 boiler, extended to fit a Weaver 4-6-0 chassis. The Vanderbilt tender is scratchbuilt but will soon be on the end of a Williams/Samhongsa brass USRA 2-8-2 I recently picked up for less than $200 delivered This Ten-Wheeler will get upgraded from QSI to PS2 and have the tender swapped out with the one that came with the Mike.
The RK Imperial 0-6-0 is a mighty fine locomotive in looks and in the way it runs.
RK B&O Hudson, Pacific, Camelback, 0-6-0, 0-8-0, Pennsy 6-8-6 Turbine, the early one that was listed as PS1 and surprised us with a PS2 sticker on the underside of the tender, and John Deere RTR set just to brighten up an otherwise dark stable. All run great even after all these years. They are mainly roundhouse fillers during the year, but earn thei keep on the office layout at Christmas! The 0-6-0, 0-8-0, and Camelback do fit in fairly with the larger Premiers on the layout.
I have two: SP GS-4, conventional and PRR S-2 turbine with PS1 (near scale, not the bantam).
Both run great, pull well. The GS-4 has a really nice deep whistle. The S-2 has a menacing hiss. The smoke unit on the GS-4 needed service (after many hours of use)as the fan stopped. Forum member Ingenierio posted great instructions on how to fix this and it is good as new after an hour of TLC.
I'm very happy with both locomotives.
Pete, that AC12 looks fantastic! What all did you do to it besides the weathering?
It is upgraded with TMCC/EOB/Rail Sounds, improved tether, LED Class Lights, Engineer/Firemen figures in cab, cab glass, and some other details. About all it needed.
Two of my favorite RK steamers that get a lot of running time. The RK PS-1 Northern Pacific Mallet is almost old enough to vote and runs like its brand new.
