I have always liked the look of two or more steam locomotives pulling a long train up a grade.

For large Lionel steam locomotives that only have a functional rear coupler this seems impossible. Are they likely to offer a double heading option on their larger locomotives.

I, personally, have always liked Mikado's and would like a double headed set of Mikados. Is this possible with the current Lionel offerings?

BTW, I really can't get excited with double headed Yard Goats.

While I can't spaek for the mikado because I don't own one but many,if not most, Lionel scale steamers come with an extra front coupler. This allows you to change out the prototypical small one to a typical oversized o scale coupler for doubleheading. If the "mikes" don't come with ne you may be able to get one from Lionels parts site. I'm sure some "mike" owners will chime in.

Although not a 100 percent guarantee, check the features list of the locomotive in question on  Lionel's website or the catalog directly... It will usually indicate...

  • Swing-out scale front coupler with interchangeable, fixed O-Gauge coupler for double-heading

Hope that helps... And enjoy them!!!

should you not be fortune enough to double head, might I suggest you have a pusher? Will work well with TMCC. I would suggest you start with short train on straight track to see if the engines are compatible-no not all TMCC engines are compatible. some seem to be geared differently just enough to create a problem. I have 2 Y6's pulling and pushing a looong coal train. I tried an A and 2 Y6's, but he A was geared just a mite different than the Y's.

I love to run my NKP 765 and PM 1225 together:

Double-heading is fun.

Yeah but they're in the wrong order.    Everyone knows the 765 should be bringing up the rear...     Just kidding, Rich!
