hi guys would like to see if anyone can help...I built this about 3 month ago...its out of the atlas o gauge layout book...it is the gateway central layout...its coming along...I would like to get some more movement though.  I would like to add a elevated line as complex as I can and when I say that meaning not just a loop...figure 8 or something like that...want to be able to run large radius engines up top....the bottom that you see on the outer loop its 0-81 and the inner is 0-72...all help and comments are appreciated layout size is 8x16

First you have built a great layout there. However I don't think it would be a candidate for an upper level unless you can expand the foot print.

I think an upper level should be  outside of the lower level. In your case the support needed Etc. is going to cover the lower line to much.

If you want to add some interest how about removing part of the table going long wise, build a section 12 or 14 inches below it and install a truss or girder bridge going across? This will make your current level look a little like an upper level.Just wanted to throw that your way.

Good luck and keep us up dated Nick
