The reason that you are missing sideframes is that those trucks were flimsoid, and the sideframes would simply fall off.  The only cure is to modify the P&D plastic sideframe and glue it on.  They do not make the Atlas sideframes any more.

By all that is right, you should be able to buy another of these for ten bucks, steal the sideframes, and pitch the rest.  But for some reason, we have decided that these things are worth over a hundred bucks.  These things were nice at ten, and probably are inflated at today's prices.  Same with the AHM C- Liner, which was a better model.

Opinion.

I never heard of flimsoid?   Is it a type of plastic?   Or am I missing something.

The sideframes are mounted to the truck body with a clip that also had the contacts on the wheels.   The U-shaped part on the truck side frame is fragile and can be broken off easily - especially when assembling or disassembly.   The original sideframe can be glued back on too.

And yes there was a time when those and the AHM cliners were $10 apiece and nobody wanted them - - but that was back in the 1980s.    Freight cars were generally 10 or less apiece too then.   Now the cars are p ushing 70 in many cases.

My opinion is that both the Altas F9 and the Cliner are decent bodies, especially if yo utake the time to scrape off the cast on hand rails and replace them with wire.

Flimsoid = fragile.  I made it up.  Clips or whatever, these things are going to be difficult to find.  They fell off and got lost, or you would have them with your model.  Happened a lot.

I agree - the bodies were quite accurate.  The original pricing reflected the overall quality, and that has not changed.  Convert them to P& D drives, and you will solve your problem and have a nice running model.

Jeez,I tried and I just can't seem to find that link. A check of your own profile shows your posts, but I don't see anything else that would help me...

Here's how I fix those flimsy Atlas side frames, Its a mechanical fix rather than glue, I use brass or aluminum angle, this slips onto the side frame, at the same time I improve the pickups, K&S tubing on the shoulders of the axle gears (interference fit) solves the splitting gear problem, and finally 3mm steel axles for the box rather than the plastic ones. They wont brake again!!
