i remember going into Eric Fuchs and he always had a store layout that almost ran the whole length. Trying to remember what the track plan was. I heard a folded dog bone but can’t remember. I was a beauty though. Thanks for any info.

Hello Dennis, it has been many years since my father and I would take the train to Boston and walk from the North Station to the South Station, stop for lunch and always stop at Eric Fuchs on the way back to the North Station for the train home.
I was never in the back room where the repairs were done but I remember a double main line with curves in the window and straights along the right side wall to the back room. There was always two trains running but I cannot remember if both freight trains and passenger trains were operating.
I hope some one can HELP Dennis with pictures of the layout .
I would like to see it myself .
While a college student back in the mid '60's, I would brave the cold and snow, take the MTA across the Charles, and visit Eric Fuchs and the Toy Department at Jordan Marsh (upper floor had Lionel Trains). Helped keep me sane.

Sounds like you and I attended the same school at the same time. The great gray pile on the Charles...

Just an idea. Try the Boston historical society. I have found it to be truly amazing what you can find in the archives of a well run historical society.
Eric Fuchs’ Christmas layout was such a popular thing at Christmas time you just might find information on it.
Melgar,
The "Tute? Too many "Smoots" to cross the Charles during the winter on foot.

Sounds like a great idea! Thanks Jim

Sounds like the place! Given my hobby today, I could have ended up a Course I or Course II major. Actually, I never got to Erich Fuchs. Wasn't pursuing the hobbies during school. Too busy "tooling."

Hi, I do not do O Gauge just worked on them. I just joined mainly to answer this or any questions about Eric Fuchs Hobbies. I worked there for close to or a little over ten years in the early 60 thru the 90s. I became close friends with the family Eric taught me how to fix the old trains as his eye sight was very bad. I was not working there or remember the layout but saw pics and Eric used to always talk about it. I found these online of the old layout and store from before I got there. The store looked a lot different back in the day.
