Good morning FEFers,

On November 17, 1947, two unique trains met at Harrisburg PA.  The Freedom Train, in an effort led by President Harry Truman, was touring the country to show Americans our country was moving from economic depression and war to becoming a leader in world affairs.  An interesting side note is the PA1 diesel leading the train is the only known engine to have traveled all the lower 48 states.

The Friendship Train collected donations of food and medicine for people in Europe in the aftermath of World War II.  The Friendship train that pulled into Harrisburg had 51 cars and would collect many more before it arrived in New York City.  This train was one of four crossing the U.S., with eventually about 270 carloads of supplies were loaded on ships for France and Italy.  The Friendship Train was pulled by Centipedes while on PRR tracks.

Both engines are Lionel.  This photos are a repeat from a few years ago due to a lack of time for new ones - back to working on the layout.

Well its a bad winter day here in central Texas...last Friday it was near 70 deg and today its 22deg and the streets and driveways are all covered in about 1/2" + of ice.  Everything is closed here as the municipal authorities had no mechanism to clear the streets when we got about 2" of snow/slush yesterday and of course it all froze solid overnight. So we are "trapped" in the house.  Now I know what you east coast folks have been through!

Today I really didn't have much time to make any new pictures. However I don't think I have posted this one before:  This is a MTH SD-90 Norfolk Southern diesel, one of their "Heritage Engines" this one in a livery in tribute to the Central Railroad of NJ ("Jersey Central). I purchased this one because I have a soft spot for the CNJ.    I grew up very close to the CNJ base of operations in the Newark / NY area and only a few miles from the site of their Hoboken Yard and the large commuter station there where you transferred to the ferry to go to Manhattan. NJ Transit still uses this station by the way and it has been restored to some of its former glory.

Nice SD-90, Don.I remember always going to the train shows at the CNJ station/ferry docks in Jersey City. They were usually packed, and sometimes tied in with an antique car show.

Good idea Lee .         I have the Railking Allegheny that i havent been able to find the boiler board for .......but what am I supposed to pull that big monster with ?...........I have a 2-8-2  🤔..........

Lee- A Dallee reversing board would keep that as a powered unit.

Happy Friday everyone! What a great FeF day, lots of great posts and photos today! It seems like every FeF my WP GS-64 is on the middle track, and I'm too lazy to change it out, so another photo of #485, with a little twist maybe. The sun was coming through the window, so I wanted to catch the morning sun.

Front end of a caribou checking out campers cooking up the morning catch. There's nothing like freshly caught rainbow trout for breakfast! Good grieve, I'm drooling just thinking about it. LoL

Dan -everything you stated about the current weather in North Texas is spot on. What you left out is that thus doesn't happen every year and we measure our hunker down time in hours or a day or two at the worst! (Snowmaggedon last year was an anomaly). My official report from my front door is that the residential roads are clear and dry at this time.

Thanks Bob for the leg work. I’ve looked in to this a couple times but I just decided to make it a Dummy I’ll pull it with my other Reading RS-3

I was going to suggest an ERR upgrade to full command but I deferred.....🤣🤣

Artie - DL&W  Hey thanks for the compliment, I had forgotten about the train shows at the terminal as I left the area quite some time ago, but the mention of them combined with the car shows reminded me ... great shows and great times.   CR Cole- you are right at least we don't have to suffer long. Friday was nearly clear here in Waco and today (Sat) it's like 60+ degrees ...and you don't have to shovel sunshine !    Kon112H, Chessie 1971, and Trainwreck Nate :  Welcome aboard, neat trains and good to have you back / posting.
