The building is a highly and beautifully detailed compressed version of the terminal.  There is one on display at the NYC Transit museum layout in the real terminal (albeit has a custom base representing the street level AND a completely not to scale but very nicely done Met Life/ne Pan AM building behind it).

This is not my photo but one I found  on Google:

"scale model" would be roughly 6'x6'x3' and that would just be the "main" building with no platforms/tracks.

I believe this is a very good idea. If it comes close in detail to the previous release, it should be a winner for those who did not have the required space before but wanted one of these beautiful models.

This terminal is so well known that visitors to my layout who are not necessarily train savvy immediately recognize it. Good move for Lionel, the LCCA, and TW Design.

But, is not that the original larger model?

Yes, the model in that picture was the very first Grand Central Station Roger designed for Lionel's Holiday Layout which Lionel puts on display inside the New York Transit Museum every Holiday Season since 2005

Geez time zips by when you're enjoying life!!!

TW Design/TrainWorx has been the Official Layout Builder for Lionel since 2001

If it were scale to O gauge wouldn't it be as large as a house?  It has to have some artistic license.

Yep Very True Mike W. thanks for you for the reply... I meant to say but didnt since I type many answers on my IPhone--- the orginal "larger size" but that would cost $2000 not $200.

Great looking building. Great dimensions also. I don't have a spot now but I want to get it and find a place as time goes by.  I am a memember already. I tried to pre-order on my iPad but it just wouldn't take the order. No biggie, I'll do it on my laptop later. Definetly looking forward to seeing it live. I may have to add a NYC section to my layout just for this. Never thought I would build a layout area just to use a structure.  Layout plans can change in an instant.

Which NYC Subway are you looking at?  I also have plans to acquire one. Don't know which one.  Would like to stick with MTH.

The picture in the LRRC email and in the Lionel catalog is wrong. It shows the Trainworx full size station.  The Lionel station is MUCH LESS DETAILED.  I spoke to the designer and he said he told Lionel about it but they published the wrong pciture anyway.  Maybe someone can sneak a pic of it at Yrok where it is on display.

I haven't decied yet but I may contact Lionel and ask for my money back.

Uh ohhhh.....I may be right behind you making that call....

Just to be clear.  Both stations are made by TW Trainworx.  This is I believe is just a simple mistake.  Nevertheless I order based on a incorrect picture and I'm not happy.  This isn't a minor change in the specs of a product.  It's the wrong product all together!
