I have been using regular batteries in my hand unit but I change them out at least twice during the  year. This last time  I noticed some greenish colored corrsion on one of the top battery contacts. Was this caused by the battery or by something else. There was no leakage from the battery. And what would clean up the corrsion. Any help is greatly appreciated......Paul

Thanks for the info. They were regular batteries because I decided against rechargable ones. I just found the corrosion odd because the batteries are changed out, minimum, twice a year and the ones I took out showed no signs of leakage. However now I wonder just how good the batteries are because for othe applications I bought a bulk pack of AAA's which had a good till date of 2014 on them and ttwo or three of them in the package leaked.....Paul

I buy brand name batteries at Costco and I get rid of them when they reach their expiration dates.  I've never had a bad one from them.  One issue is when primary cells are totally dead, they tend to leak.  Since any of these controls that use soft switches consume a small amount of current all the time, the batteries will eventually go dead, even if the unit is "turned off" and unused.
