At what it was listed at here recently, I would be interested.
I picked up an Acela for my son as he really wanted a "Fast Train". In other words this is more like the passenger trains he sees everyday. Such as our Class 43 HST or Class 91 Intercity 225, Eurostar and the Virgin Pendolino.
Luckly I got a very good deal from a forum member otherwise we would have never afforded one.
It's most definitely not a starter set. In regards the IR sensors they are a weak link, the train works best in my experience if you have a straight section of track the full length of the train after a curve. Then it behaves itself for the most part.
Changing the traction tires can be "fun" but otherwise it's not to bad to work on.
It's one of those trains you set up on your layout and leave on the track for a few weeks! Not something you want to be taking on and off the track often!
Nick
I look forward to the Legacy version of the Acela.

Me, I love it.
Truer words were ne'er spoken. It will drive you mad when it's not working right, which is most of the time. But when it is . . .
I laugh now because I get 2 to 3 laps out it then the cars lights will come on below the doors signifying they have lossed their signal. If you are lucky you stop the consist. Hit aux 0 and they are smart again, otherwise you fight those stupid couplers.
John, you scooped me on that one. Call Al Bisback in Canada. He is on the forum.
I forgot about tires on the CC2. I put new tires on my Acela and sold it to a very good friend. Back then, Lionel was charging $100.00 to do the tires on the Acela. After being into the job, I wished I could have turned back the clock and paid the C note with a smile.

Theres been a few jobs i wish i could of done that recently..
Where do I send the locomotive and the C-note? I'm putting it off, hoping the brake shoes will wear down the existing traction tires and solve my problem.
It is so sad that Lionel released a dog like this before working to iron out the MANY issues. This could have been a marquee (?) product for Lionel, instead they botched it and apparently don't care.
I think they may have taken a cue from this experience for the VL-BB, a much smoother delivery.

I think the odd thing is the lack of information out there to get one working flawlessly. There has been a larger effort in finding gears for the Niagara than new couplers for the Acela.
Several have mentioned a new Legacy version - any idea when? I thought the last re-issue was shelved...
