I tried to create a direction, horn, bell box that could be operated with large switches called Jelly Beans. This is for our Canadian friend Matthew, who is physically challenged. He has his improved layout and a nice train set (6-30158). With his Ablenet control, he could only turn on the power.

I added 1/8" mono jacks to a Dallee #1102. His Jelly bean switches would plug into it and enable him to operate direction, horn and bell, crew talk. tested fine at home, tested fine at my LHS before we shipped it.

Now there is no response to horn and bell. The set has a CW-80 and Railsounds.

Are the signals different for the new locomotives than the MPC or Postwar Lionel's. Do you have to use a smooth sine wave transformer?

Any clues or help for a solution would be appreciated.

Thanks.

You need to isolate the components to diagnose the problem.

Disconnect the Dallee unit completely, hook the transformer directly to the track, and try the sounds using the transformer only. If this works, reconnect the Dallee unit, unplug the external switches, and try again using the switches on the Dallee unit. If this does not work, check the new wiring inside the unit. If it does work, plug in the external switch and try again. If this does not work, either the switch is bad, or the plug assembly or wiring is bad. You need to isolate the problem using the process of elimination.

The sounds should work with the set transformer. The sounds are activated by a DC signal, and sine wave vs chopped wave transformers operate the same with respect to activating sounds.

Thanks, trainlarry. Did exactly that before I sent it off. Wanted to be 100%. All was well, but on a postwar conventional engine with a PW ZW for power. We didn't test it on a newer engine.

I am awaiting a reply about sound operation directly from the CW-80 buttons.

Do the new engines require a different signal?  oops-was typing while you were.

Oh well, I have a long distance issue to deal with.
