Ok, I have just received the DCS system and Barry's book, but I have a few questions:

  1. Do I have to download anything immediately or can I just hook it up and run?
  2. If I do have to download anything, I have a MAC (2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5) so, do you find it easier to run parallels or boot camp?
  3. Do I have to regularly check the MTH website to see if there are updates, or are there email reminders?

I am really fired up, as are the kids, but I am proceeding with caution as not to screw things up.

Thanks in advance.

Lou,

If you're running PS2/3 engines, put an engine on the track, connect your power supply to the TIU FIXED 1 IN, and 2 wires from the TIU FIXED 1 OUT to your layout, turn on the power and give it a go.  If that doesn't work THEN I'd check a few other things, no need to download anything at this early point. You'll have to add the engine into the handheld, then select it, but that should be enough to get you started.

Lou,

No, you're good to go!

Parallels.

Just stay tuned to this forum!

Lou,

I had to chuckle at Barry's answer, he is right on the money, no need at this point to down load anything, and just keep an eye on this forum for most of your needs.

If you are powering your DCS with older type ZW & KW transformers make sure you have either Scott Breakers or fuses between the transformer and your DCS TIU.

Other than that you are good to go.  One of the other things I always recommed is the

OGR Video Guide to DCS, there is a wealth of visual information on the Video Guide.
