Information needed for Lionel 536417 N5 caboose BLT 2-53 PW (Postwar Celebration Series?)
I have this N5 version but do not have the original box. The car has modern style diecast trucks.
What is the Lionel model number for this car and when was this model first issued?

That is a modern version of the original. The small "pw" and the tiny square hole for the lantern base tell me this is a Postwar Celebration or Conventional Classics remake.
The one in the photo was definitely not made in 1955. Sorry can't help with the modern catalog number.

Agreed... Which is why I had it restored in 2003 or so.
Did the same thing with the bay window caboose, square-back tender, aquarium car, 6672 reefer and a few other I'm probably forgetting at the moment.
BTW, that porthole is a 6-19757 from the 6-21763 New Haven PWC Freight Car Pack produced in the late 1990's.

Nope. To simplify the decoration process.

Even on the Wegman's(PA Flyer type N5C) caboose the rivet detail is remarkable. The tooling is in great shape, the side holes for the lanterns have been filled in. Except for the cupola detail and window arrangement, the caboose is now symmetrical.
