Wanted to share this, along with get an initial thread started. I'm not only a huge model train nerd, but a horror/suspend movie nerd. With the Jurassic Park movies being some of my favorites. So, I thought, why not put 2 & 2 together and see what happens.

I've spent about 4 weeks getting to this part. I have big plans for this electrical wise. I hope to use an isolated track to open the gate, trigger the theme music, and turn on the LED's, but that's down the road, and hopefully with a lot of help from GRJ.

This is going to be part of a whole "Jurassic Park" section of the layout. Once I get "Gate 1" finished, I plan on having another gate printed, on the other end to secure the area. There are even plans for a Jurassic Park themed diesel train.....

Next step is to get it cleaned and painted.

I cant. 3D Design is not my thing. I contracted all of this out. Found someone to make a model for me (I didn't like some of the "Existing" models.) then tried to find a printer. This one was printed in NY and shipped to me. However, I found someone local in Richmond who can print the next one better, for less.

I'm going to probably spend WAY to much time over the next couple of weeks researching how to paint this to make it look like good stone.

Man that is really an eye full of candy, You could make an RTV of sell some of that, I maybe a buyer.

I am also a si/fye nut who has most of the 50 and 60s videos monster cheesy flics which keep me company when I work on the layout.

I plan on a nice monster scene. I got a few models of the fifties creatures. Godzilla needs the seat of honor for it.

jurfeat

So THAT'S what happened to Shamu!

..but can you make a hat, a broach, or a pterodactyl   ( ”Airplane")

You might use a Tortoise or similar turnout motor and controls on the doors to keep supplies 'train oriented'; possibly more familiar.

Any plans for animatronics once the gate opens?

I don't get the embedding tool anymore

A monster section is pretty awesome. My layout right now is primarily Halloween themed. I plan on adding the Jurassic Park section, some famous horror film location (Bates Mote, Overlook Hotel, Etc), along with a Harry Potter/Hogwarts section. Not sure what you mean by " You could make an RTV of sell some of that, I maybe a buyer."?

Honestly, I'm 0% familiar with any of the electronics of train operations. I've done a LOT of automotive and computer wiring, but my layout right now is two independent loops powered by two CW 80's.

There is actually a very popular JP Pinball mod that uses servo's to open the gate. He uses an adrino to control the gate. I figured I might start with his circuitry and see what/if we can make it work.

Not sure of any actual animatronics once the train enters Jurassic park. Might come up with something.  Right now there are plans for a Gate, Visitor Center, Raptor Paddock, T-REX Scene/Fence, and maybe a few things from the new Jurassic World movie.

Not sure what you mean by " You could make an RTV rubber mold of sell some of that, I maybe a buyer."?

RTV Means Room Temperature Vulcanization fancy lingo for silicone two part molds. it is a 10 % accelerator hardener and 90 percent Silicon liquid rubber.

You can use an open cavity mold and make as many parts( your gates) as you want.

You also would use a casting resin to make the parts such as polyurethane casting resin.

Google the above for retailers. Micro Mark sell starter kits now I heard.

It is easy stuff to learn.

Eh. I'm not really interested in trying to mass produce these. Maybe after gate two gets done.

Quick update. Went to Michael's (the girlfriend gets 30% off + whatever coupon) and picked up some spray enamal primer. I figured it would fill in the spaces between the layers and smooth everything out.

Not so much.

So, after a bit of hand sanding with 80/240/600 here is the comparison. Not looking forward to all this sanding......

*Gasp* Another JP nerd!!!
(Apologies, I've been away from the forum for a while.)

Jada Toys makes 1/43 scale JP vehicles, and Papo makes an assortment of JP-style dinosaurs. I have the standing T. rex and Spinosaurus.

I've discovered a few more O scale sci-fi items recently. I intend to post later as I acquire them.

As far as JP-related rolling stock, I have a few suggestions, all Lionel:
• Security caboose
• Generator car
• Cop/Hobo gondola (substitute Velociraptor and InGen employee)
• Cop/Jumping Hobo box car (same concept as the gondola)
•Operating cattle car
• Operating dump car with feed bales (based on what the herbivore feeders dispense in Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis)
• Masrani Oil tank car

Well, it's been 8 months  sense I started this thread and I've finally got an update.

To quote that oh so famous movie "Life.... gets in the way"

I've repainted the grey three times and I finally reached look I like. It's also my first time painting the arch letters and I think it looks good.

To do:

1. Decide if I want to paint the letter edges blue as in the movie.

2. Figure out if I want to get the doors more realistic looking.

3. Wire up the LEDs and get them programmed.

4. Get the "Flames" printed.

5. Wire up servos and get all that working.

Flash on/off photo. Off shows it more realistic.
