Broke the truck all the way down and cleaned everything up with an extra toothbrush (not my wife's ). Worm gear definitely has a crack between two of the teeth - see photos below. I put the whole thing back together, greased it up, and tested it out - definitely still binding

I got a reply from Brasseur/Train Doctor folks and they said they don't know the part number for the worm gear and don't have any of them in stock. I'm following up to see if they have the whole truck instead as I wouldn't be against replacing it if the price isn't too steep.

I could also just disconnect/remove the motor for that truck - 3 motors without binding is better than 4 with binding.

Any other ideas for replacement gears?

Since it's on the axle, I think you're really going to have to find the exact part.

If you could find the exact same size gear, you could pull the axle apart and press the gear on and then put the wheel back on.

I replaced a gear like this on a CC II Shark a few years back. I used a vice, a punch, and some different sized sockets to do the pressing off/on.

I marked the wheel and axle position before removing them so I could line up the splines when reinstalling them.

Worked pretty well.

Its really only the gear that matters. With the axles removable it should be fairly easy to pull the gear and wheels off. If possible use a press, even a drill press with a pin punch or hard steel rod. Don’t pound them off with a hammer or use a two jaw gear puller or you risk breaking the wheel flanges. 7 bucks is cheap gamble. Stock Drive Parts or other 3rd Party supplier will cost you 3 times as much and the gear still might not be perfect.

You may have done that the hard way, I believe they still have gears and trucks available for the CC II Shark.

When I had looked, they only had the whole truck. However, the same motor and worm P/N was used in a six axle truck from the same year, which had a center axle that was available with the gear.  At only like $8 vs $30+ I took a chance that it used the same gear and axle size. It did so everything worked out.  I then bought a whole truck as insurance after I learned about the parts sale.

Plus I like a challenge. 🙂
