This will be my first try at kit bashing or you may say it is just kit alterations.  I have an MTH bank and I need to make the structure shorter.  My thought is just to cut off the back wall, take out one of the window sections and put the back wall back in place.  Do you, who have way more experience than I, have any thoughts on this idea?  Should I use a Dremel tool or use a model saw?  How is it best to put it back together?  What glue does one use?  You see, I have lots more questions than answers.  Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.  Happy New Year!

Interesting project.   I had done some work with OGR Ameritown building pieces. Getting the parts cut and fit to match is probably the most important part of the project.  You may want to use a good straight edge properly clamped in place and a utility knife. the dremel tool doesn't give a lot of accuracy.   Any who.  Here is some small fabrication.
Not full size buildings but enough depth to enhance the building fronts.

(2)Side panels are one piece, (71B side wall), cut with a band saw, finished with a hand sanding block. Side walls are also shorter to fit under the display shelf. I used masonite as bases for this project.  Panels are Super Glued together.  The windows and  store front display litho can also be purchased from OGR.

The center building was a bad cut from an Ameritown Barrettsburg factory. I swapped pieces with a friend and then cobbled the bad cuts for a corner.  I added roof panels and end panels as with the two taller buildings. I really didn't want to move the wall shelving.

I used a Dremel on this MTH bank kitbash.  As far as glue up is concerned I made some internal braces that allowed for a glue line on both sides of the cuts for reinforcement.  The secret is to make your cuts as straight as possible, clean the edge with a flat file keeping the edge as straight as possible and then make sure the JOINT is almost hidden by the edge casting on the corners of the bank.  It's not hard just take your time.  An additional thought if the building is only visible head on, you can make the joing using the front wall and corners instead of the back wall and that will help disquise the joint.  Anyhow, have fun, kieep us posted.  Russ
