It has been awhile sense I built a lash up. I don’t remember having this problem occur. After the lash up is put together and all info is put in, when I address the lash up to start up all the lights come on, smoke and sound. I then have to go back and address each engine individually and set the everything that I want that particular engine to do. Then shut it down and go back to the lash up’s I’d and select it and everything is fine.

The engines are P2 and I am using the Wi-Fi app. Maybe this is suppose to happen, I just don’t remember it happening.

Using all the latest version of updates on TIU and wi-Fi . Not sure about the fsv key. I don’t remember seeing it on my iPhone. This only happens on doing the original making of the lash up. After it’s made up it’s fine. Just making it up then having to go back and reset everything. Oh the sound and smoke functions do not work when in lash up unless its turned on individually on each loco in the lash up.

Sorry, the FSV question was for my benefit. It's on the remote and I have to look if it's on the app or it does it automatically. There were issues like this on older versions so I asked to make sure if everything is up to date.

So the only other thing that comes to my mind, is poor signal. This can come up when several engines are on the rails and be fine sometimes when only one engine is tested. If you can do a signal test with the consist, and it comes back less than perfect, you might pull anything extra off of the power to the rails.

Maybe someone else has a better idea?

please exsplain the FSV soft key. I have the same issue somtimes as the original poster. mainly with sound levels. my issue is when lashing up two engines the sliders on the lashup seem to have no effect on the rear engine.

I think this may have been an issue with an older version of the app? I can't remember which?

(DCS version or the app version)

Signal is not the problem. Even though everything is up to date software wise. It must be in the software. This problem occurs with any engines trying to be put in a lash up. I am very computer illiterate. Was staying up with the computers but as time goes by I seem to be have been left behind. Maybe the same in this DCS world.

I only asked about the software version as there were releases with different known bugs in them on lighting in lash-ups. I did not keep written records of the bugs. I would guess it was with the DCS 5.x versions and the very early releases of the app versions. The FSV key was developed (I believe) after complaints about having to do just what you described. The remote was the mainly used control, and the only one at first we have to remember. The remote is limited in it's capabilities. So I imagine some things could have been more easy to fix with the app if they didn't have to also include the remote.

I do know that software keeps updating and MTH works on eliminating any of the known bugs with each release. So the first thing I recommend is updating when these things are encountered. Sometimes there are known issues that need work arounds as MTH hasn't changed the software to fix the problem, right away. It takes a couple of extra button pushes. (Like toggling the direction button to fix a bug direction issue on all consist members. ) The software has to do more to comply with using both older PS2 and the new PS3 boards, and the remote, and the app, and another brand of control.

MTH does list these fixes on new DCS releases when they become available. I just never kept track of each.

You don't have to be a computer wiz to work with DCS. The app should make things easy. Trying to determine what is wrong when issues arise is a different story. We have to be methodical in our search. It's usually something fairly easy that is overlooked. Sometimes it is an actual software issue. It's always more complicated than just a transformer to track for conventional runners. As soon as you add anything to the chain, it gets more complicated.

I have to laugh as our youngest grandson usually finds things faster than I do, be it a new feature, or a problem using the equipment. He is young and full of energy. So I try to be on top of things so he doesn't have to be limited. Sometimes I'm still programming a new lash-up that he requested, when he's decided to run something else. I've learned to include him now in each step of building a lash-up so he knows what it takes. That keeps him busy enough and directs his focus. It gives me time to catch up! It does also help me to forget problems of yesterday and look at what's happening at any given moment.

I just typed myself to sleep now...……...

ENGINEERR-JOE, thanks for all your input. I am not a big time 3-rail guy. My main focus and has been for over 45 years is the HO scale. Just the last 7 years or so I have been tinkering with 3 rail. I enjoy it as much as my small stuff. I do both. Even dabble in N scale. I just love model trains I guess.

I am going to have to go back hook everything up and verify the updates to the TIU, and WIU. I prefer the old handheld over all this WI-FI stuff. My handheld went down for the third time. I contempladed on purchasing another but figured I might be throwing money away because it would just in turn have problems to. Wish MTH would just make a better hand held so we could have the option of going Wi-Fi or remote.
