I like the fact you are supporting a small shop. Nice!

Supporting the lumber yard is great! Sometimes the hours can be challenging for folks that work day jobs during the week, and they may not be open weekends. For the most part, you get better lumber at a lower cost from buying locally.

Good show. I've become fed up with Home Despot because it seems lately that they haven't had the stuff I've needed for layout projects. I did find a lumber yard nearby that stocks Trex composite lumber and high-grade plywood, so I'm going there for my next build.

Here you have to run a gauntlet of illegal aliens to get to Home Depot. Lowes won't allow them.

I put down the first track today! Woohooo. Felt great to permanently lay down some track and wire it up. Took 3 months to build enough bench work and put down homasote. Photos soon :-)

First track is down and here's the first sanity test.

Note: 4x 2 rail cars (meaning 2 rail flanges) with back to back Atlas #5 switches with an Atlas #5 double cross over in the middle. Remind me again about the problems with Atlas switches? I'm having a hard time remembering...

It is a disgrace what Home Depot calls "Grade A" lumber. It is usually warped and full of knots. Good old local lumber yard is the place to go.

Room is a mess but making progress..

 

 

 

 

Finally got the track down for the secondary yard.   This was empty benchwork a few weeks ago.

 

 

 

Things are on hold for now.....

 

Furnace is being replaced and layout is sectioned off with plastic dust covers.

 

3 walls of come down in the Furnace area.   The oil tank is going out and the new furnace is gas.    Also the new furnace is 1/2 the size as the old one.   We're also getting the old water heater out and going tankless.    The new tankless is tiny!    I'm gaining 8x15 feet of space for the trains mostly due to the Oil tank, but also due to the water heater and moving the furnace back a few feet!   WOOT!   

 

And......    I'm heading to China for a month.    So progress will be slow.    When we get back I need to build (frame and dry wall) new walls and a door for the furnace/water heater area.   After that I can resume layout construction.
