OK just wondering I remember when they added they crewtalk to the Generals no one was sure what it would sound like.

Now that they are being delivered (thanks to Lou's hard work, patience and perseverance) is the crew talk modern or did they put some more 1800ish crewtalk in it?

got our generals today and couple of issues.  just to make sure I was not doing anything incorrect I ran Harry Potter and had no issues.

First issue, direction control is intermittent sometimes starts in forward sometimes in neutral sometimes in reverse.

second, no crew talk.

I am posting here to see if anyone else is having the same or similar issues, and we can discuss them.

yes Lionel has been contacted by email.

Should we contact LCCA also?

I'm guessing that someone wised up and realized that radio chatter coming out of Civil War locomotives was anachronistic to the extreme.  Still, it would have been nice if the recordings were of chatter between the engineer and fireman.

Of course with this set, some custom sounds would have been really nice:

[from the "General"] "Hey Johnny Reb, we got your engine!  Neener neener!"

[from the "Texas"]  "I'm gonna git you Yankee, and your little dog, too!"

The General and Texas are stunning locomotives.  The painting on these went way beyond what I expected.  Nothing less than beautiful.  Nice job Lou.

As far as crew talk, it would have been nice to have locomotive crew talk like, "tracks are out up ahead", "we are gaining on them, more steam", well get those yankee's", or "stop so we can telegraph ahead"......etc.  This type of talk would have made the engines quite unique.  But the locomotives are done and delivered and there is nothing we can do about it now.  Just enjoy what was created, a wonderful set of great chase locomotives.

When it comes to 4-4-0 Americans, I have 4 different Lionel W&A "Generals", a Lionel UP 4-4-0, the Lionel Lone Ranger 4-4-0, the Lionel Transylvania 4-4-0, the Lionel W&A "Texas", an MTH W&A "Texas", the SMR W&A "General", the SMR W&A "Texas", and soon, the SMR W&A "Yonah".

I think there was at least one other company that has done 3-rail 4-4-0 Americans, but am fuzzy on the details, as it was before my time, IIRC.

Lionel, MTH and others have done quite a few other 4-4-0's, but I have no desire to collect them all.  I do hope, though, to some day pick up nice examples of all the Lionel Postwar "Generals" and the LCCA Halloween General set to complete my collection of Lionel W&A "Generals."

something interesting. I disconnected my Legacy and TPC and ran the generals with just the transformer, everything is OK.  hooked back up the legacy and TPC and erratic performance from the generals but other conventional are OK.

this is what Lionel said about the railsounds/crew dialogue;

"Unfortunately we do not have a parts list or description for LCCA products.  You may want to contact the LCCA to have your questions addressed."
