So if I have this right, in order to move over to a WiFi/iPad system, I'll need one Ser2 for each AMC, BPC or OTC that I am currently using, is that correct?  I will additionally need one WiFi unit and if I want to move my switches over to the system from the my current DZ-2500/DZ-2001method, I'll need one ACS2 for every four switches (12 switches so 3 ACS2's) with the eventual addition of the new STM2 and a few LCS track pieces….Does all this sound right?

Hmm…if I have this right, at current market price, that will be:  $140 for one WiFi unit + $95x3 for three ASC2's (I have 12 switches) + $40X6 for six Ser2's to pair up with my 6 AMC/BPC/OTC's, plus $75x3 for three sensor tracks + around $100 for the cables, give or take = $990, not including an iPad, if I don't have one and an unknown $ outlay for those really cool STM2's.  Ouch.  Yet probably worth it given how cool this looks like it is going to be.

Back to my question tho….do I understand correctly I need one Ser2 for each AMC, BPC or OTC that I am currently operating?

Yes, only one SER2. What do you have controlling your switches now? A data line for the DZs? Then that can be connected to the SER2 as well. If it's the SC-2, then they will work with LCS as well.

So you only need to spend about $300 for an SER2, WiFi, Sensor Track and PS, and a couple of cables. plus an iPad. And an iPad 1 or 2 works just fine. You can get them for a minimum of $ now that the iPad Air2 is out.

Less than a Legacy diesel, eh?

Thanks guys.  That makes me mucho happy.

Regarding the follow-up question…. Yeah, I have a data line to my switches from a DZ-2001.  I never did get that to work along with the AMC, BPC and OTC's.  It would work stand alone, but not in combination.  I gave up.  Not pursuing any further….think I'll invest in the ACS's.

Love this new WiFi stuff tho….my granddaughter will be able to control the layout… but not when I'm running my CC2.

I would recommend not giving up on the DZ-2001 without calling Z Stuff to talk to them about your issue.  They are really good at solving problems with their stuff.

I believe Lionel made a special effort for you to run your DZ-2001 data driver as well as TPCs, etc. with the SER2 serial output. It's got the drive capability that the Base had before the Legacy Base and should work very well. So there is no need to buy ASC2s.

A train friend had issues with the DZ-2001 because of the lack of drive capability of the Legacy Base. The Legacy Base could only run one thing for the most part.  The new SER2 fixes that...give it a try if that is the same for you.
