Legacy modules

You need the black modules if you want to do an update from the web.  Black modules list for $19.95.  If you have unused blue modules, as most of us do, you can modify them to create black modules for free.  Here's the thread that describes the process.

The tan or orange modules are not candidates for the conversion, they only have half the memory of the blue or black modules.

If you end up buying a black module from Lionel or anywhere else, you only need one to to the upgrade

I would like to attempt to do one of these  myself, but I do not have a blue module.

anyone got one that i could play with ? I would pay for the module & postage.

Where did the blue ones come from ?

Thanks for the link John, so if I just move the resistor (or use wire) over I no longer have to cut the pin on the chip correct ?

Correct, moving the resistor is the better method, it's just that I didn't discover it first.  Jon Z. pointed that out, he had the benefit of a schematic of how the module is build.  

The blue modules were the ones that were supplied with the Legacy for the firmware for the CAB2 and the base, and if you had a 1.2 or earlier, when you registered your Legacy with Lionel, they sent you the 1.3 modules.  I had a total of five of them I made into black modules, as well as a bunch for other members of our club.  The hardest part is splitting the case, some of them are glued pretty well, others are practically falling apart when you get them.

It is registered with Lionel, they had to repair it some time ago.

I guess I will have to break down and order a black module...

I'm very surprised it didn't come with blue modules, and that you didn't get the 1.3 modules when you registered as well.
