I will not be putting mine up til Christmas, as for us it's a loop of 027 around the tree, alongside some classic models. A few years back, I created my own version of the polar express; 2 years ago, it was a 1666 with some streamlined PRR passenger cars; 1 year ago, it was my great uncles 2243 and the same passenger cars; this year will see the debut of my grandad's Marx 495, with the appropriate cars in tow.

not quite finished, need some lights for under the snow blanket.

Uncle Jim's 2020

and the Tootsie Toy truck...Uncle Jim drove truck, over sized, or heavy loads. He hauled steel beams and bridge girders, sometimes into downtown NYC in the middle of the night. Or some large equipment. He collected International Harvester crawlers (red like the one on the lowboy)

Why didn't you just give him a straight answer? How's someone not into the hobby supposed to know prewar tinplate from something made later?

Well I didn't just turn around & leave after that, if you'd like I can give you a full transcript on the conversation

Brian L,

Nothing like Tin Plate on FasTrack, for a Christmas layout, fantastic stuff sir!

I was originally going to use tubular track but the uneven tables were giving the 262 and 1681 a hard time on the curves, so I opted to use fastrack to avoid any mishaps.

So not exactly tinplate or under the tree, but very much a holiday layout.  My wife and I got to see the real Polar Express this past weekend in Owosso, Michigan.  The Pere Marquette 1225 is the locomotive that inspired the children's book and film.  The author, Chris Van Allsburg, is from nearby Grand Rapids.  Not much snow with the 50 to 60 degree weather we have been having.
