Lionel 0-8-0 Erie Problem?

I have a lionel 0-8-0 Erie with railsounds and it stays in neutral most of the time, unless it sits on the track for 20 miniutes but the sound cuts when the direction button is pressed and chuffs in neutral once in a while. I am wondering if there is a place for a battery of some kind or if maybe it might have a problem.
