It is not a complete motor, only the armature.  From your description, Bill and I both concluded that “winding” meant the armature winding.  Now I am thinking that you might mean the motor field winding.

The attached image is a basic Lionel AC motor showing the parts.  IT IS NOT THE MOTOR YOU NEED.  Your motor would be 165M-1 (complete motor).  The only parts with “winding” are the armature (165M-08) and the field (165M-4).  The field was never available as a separate part.  If you need the field your choices are: 1) find a used motor or, 2) rewind the field.

I would still contact Trainz, they might be able to help, in some way.

Thanks again, Dan

Your diagram helped me determine that it is indeed the field winding. I have used the Motor Doctor in the past with good results on a Locomotive. It seems to me that the field will hard to rewind because it doesn't seem to be removable from the motor's frame. I will contact him for an opinion re: a rebuild.

Meanwhile I will also keep an eye out for a replacement. If anyone knows of a working motor, let me know.

Thanks to all! John
