I have a new to me postwar Trainmaster 2321 that I took apart to service the motors and trucks.  Cleaned out the drive gears from the old grease and put in fresh red and tacky grease.  Motors cleaned and lubed and were in good shape.

Problem is the front and rear trucks are not balanced in frictional drag.  The front one I can move the wheels by thumb easily.  The rear one takes 2 hard thumbs to move.  Bench testing confirms the rear truck needs 2-3 volts more to get moving.

The motors spin the same when they are disengaged.  So I'm guessing it may be the gear mesh between vertical motor worm gear and truck causing high friction..

Anyone have experience with unbalanced drive trucks?  Is it as simple as adding a shim to change the gear mesh, and where would it be added?

Thanks,

Bob
