Saturday, I purchased a Lionel 3362 as part of another set from a gentleman at the TCMRM Train Show & Sale at the Minnesota fairgrounds. He asked me if I saw anything unique about the car and, looking at from the top I said it looked pretty common.  He smiled and told me to pick it up.  When I did, I saw that the printing on both sides had been applied upside down.  Needless to say, I purchased it from him.  My question is whether anyone has seen this error on this piece before, how rare it is and any idea on value.  It looks completely original.  If I can figure out how to post pics to this group (hints would be appreciated), I will share picture of it.

Thanks for any help

Peter

Factory errors have lost their luster over the years. The postwar Lionel Corporation was very good at not releasing errors so they are hard to find but they do exist. That's when you had a quality control department. We have current producers to thank for killing the market by releasing pre production samples. It is probably the only one, and since you are most likely not the first person to see it on the table you paid the market value.  Personally, I have a few postwar errors and I was actually in the Greenberg guides for errors or double stampings and wrong lettering.

Thank you!

I had "good fortune" of getting two factory errors in recent years.

January 2012, yellow stripes missing on left side of a Flyer U33C.

January 2013, "Manhattan" name missing on one side of a Pullman from the Berkshire passenger set:

Copy of rLionel 2628 011313 01

Moral of the story: Don't buy anything in January...

I sent both back immediately to Lionel for replacement.
