I made the mistake of going down to Legacy Station this week and took this beautiful steam locomotive out of the box for a test drive...and I have to say I was impressed! So much so that I put this model in layaway!
Keep an eye out for when it comes home, I hope to do that before I go to Fiddler's Grove in August.
The two best things about this engine is the fact that it's unpainted, save for the gloss coat to protect the metal, and the sounds of the turbine engine. It ends up sounding more like a diesel then a steam engine!
This engine is also special to me because the very first O Gauge model I ever bought was a post war 2020 steam turbine from Lionel.

Enjoy!20170508_11410720170508_12032720170508_114446

IMG_0448Hey, Stirling R. Callahan, I'm glad to know there's someone else out there that really goes crazy over these Pilot engines. I have five and I'm looking for one more, however I gotta wait and save up some more nickels.  I used a lot of them at York.  Here's a photo of my Pilots, enjoy yours and good luck

Those are really sharp!

The S2 is my first pilot model and I'm really excited to get it. I don't know if I'll start to hunt down the other models, but hey! I've got one and that's pretty darn good!

Stirling,

I too fell in love with that engine. Here is mine. I don't plan on any more pilot engines but I love this one.

Enjoy your new S2 when it arrives.

I certainly plan to! I had actually been eyeing it on Legacy Station's website for several months. Every now and then I'd go on there and say "Is that S2 still there? Hmmm...yes it is...."
I knew I wanted it...I just had to wait for the right moment. And it stuck around, so I suppose it was ment to be! haha!

Stirling,

In my case, I was keeping an eye out for a scale S2 for my Pennsy Fleet. I saw this one on the forum. I didn't have any pilot engines and wasn't looking for any but I loved how it looked. The price was right so I bought it. After some initial problems with the engine and the seller, everything runs smoothly now and I'm very happy with the purchase. Don't worry, buying from a reputable dealer, you will not have the problems that I had.

I shouldn't, no. When we first took the engine out of the box it was a bit stiff trying to move the first time, but I think that was most likely because it had been in the box for a long time (never been opened).
Brian, owner of Legacy station, is a great guy, I've bought from him several times in recent years so I'm not worried. And I know if, God forbid anything does go wrong, he'll be there for support. He helped me out alot when my Vision Line GG-1 had problems when I first got it.

Hate it that you had to deal with a poor seller with this unit.

As for the engine itself. that's really why I got it too. Good price and beautiful model of my favorite PRR steamer. As I said, my first O Gauge engine was a 2020 so the S2 has a special place in my heart. I had an MTH Railking PS1 version of it, but I sold it back in the fall last year.
