The motor and power boards test ok. The transmission/gears are loose and free. Has anyone dealt with this issue.

Driveshafts binding possibly?
Is this the Legacy or TMCC version?
Could the sensor on the fly wheel for speed control not be working or maybe the engine is locked in at a set speed. Just throwing somethings out..............Paul
The original TMCC versions were geared for slow, prototypical running I believe. Those are from about 10 or more years ago.
My lionel Alco S4 engine does not run fast either. They are geared low.

Your locomotive may be locked in speed control. Give this a look.
Follow these steps to turn off the Odyssey System in the conventional environment.
1. While the locomotives are in neutral, turn your controller up to the maximum power (no
more than 19 volts), wait one second, then press and hold the horn button.
2. While holding the HORN button, slowly reduce the track voltage to approximately one-third
or one-half of the full power.
3. Release the HORN button.
4. Move the locomotive set in forward OR reverse. The locomotive set is now out of speed
control mode.

That did the trick I had tried it before but I don't think I reduced the voltage far enough.
Always good when things work out.
