Folks,

The benchwork is done, and I'm ready to lay track for my attempt at the Lionel D-225. Honestly, I may have bitten off more than I can chew! Things are so simple with DCC, and Lionel and conventional wiring is all new to me... So, with that said, I have a few questions I sure could use some help with.

I've attached a copy of the track plan. I drew some arrows where I have questions. I'm confused about the different track pictures shown, as some have ties through them, and others do not. Also, the insulated rail sections. I assume this is some sort of block control. Do I insulate all 3 rails, and do I insulate each piece of track, or just a section of it? How do I determine what that section is?

My apologies for the newbie questions, and I'm grateful for any advice!InkedD225mod_LI

An "Insulated Pin" makes a block.  Only the center rail is pined at the one spot to cut power past it.

An "Insulated Rail", put an insulated pin on both ends of one outside rail, the rail also has to be insulated from the metal ties.  This is used for activating an accessory in this case it looks like the 145 Gateman.  The wheels of the train complete the circuit.  The common of the gateman is connected to the insulated rail.

Thanks, how would this work with Super O track? Is the insulating pin used on the bus? How do I know which sections get insulated?

The insulated pin is used on the track.  It isolates it from the adjacent pieces. Can't speak for how it's achieved on Super O, I've never used it, someone with knowledge on Super O will have to chime in.  I'm pretty sure they make something to insulated the rails. Where to put it, based on the drawing, it looks like the straight right where you circled the 'Isolated Rail".

In the case of the block (Isolated Pin), you would be isolating track from that point to the 260 Bumper.

Thank you! I guess I got thrown off, because the drawing makes the track look different in some places, but that may be just how it printed.

Yes, Marty's correct. Those insulated track pieces on Dealer Displays were for activating signals and trackside accessories like the Gateman, Switch Tower, etc. Not block control.

But...I forgot you are doing a Super O layout (remember your previous posts). TBH, I'm not familiar enough with Super O. Maybe ADCX Rob or one of the Super O gurus will weigh in. I know there was a way to accomplish this with Super O, just don't know what it is!
