Heya,

I have recently opened my older Lionel NYC GP30 to clean it up and lubricate it. When reassembling I seem to have run into a weird issue. The locomotive will sometimes start up without sound, sometimes when power is applied the sounds will take on a mind of their own and start playing random sound effects, and sometimes it responds fine until I start moving it and the sounds start to play that skipping noise RailSounds engines seem to do when they loose connection. Meanwhile the engine runs stops and responds to the remote fine other than the sound issues. Anyone have any idea where I can start looking?

Check the boards that they are seated tight. Sometimes when taking the shell off, it can disrupt the antenna or disturb the boards. I had to remove the shell on a Legacy GP35 to dislodge a stinkbug and had something similar happen. Once I reseated the boards everything was fine.
