5267C00D-7F77-4F3C-AA24-6E2529406D66E530932B-5F68-4F25-9FCF-D7115E0B13A3So I have the new Lionel coal hauler set and some previous run Gla hopper cars and as you can see the colors are like night & day. The earlier run is brown and the most recent run is bright oxide red. We’re the two colors mixed in real life during the WWII era or did Lionel make a mistake on the latest run of these hoppers? It’s a very interesting looking train but I’m just curious to know if having both colors is correct for a early 40’s war time coal train.

PRR Freight Car Color (as it was officially known)  changed over the years, roughly once  a decade from the thirties through the sixties.  It started out as an orange shade of red (like your Gla on the left), then grew  to a more browner shade of red (like the one on the right) as the color was changed over the decades.  Both cars are correct for Pennsy freight car red, but the one on the left is more appropriate for the years you are trying  to model.
