Lionel postwar searchlight cars

The part number 6520-25 here's a photo of one that I picked up at Madison hardware a long time ago. The contact drum itself is 1001M-42. If interested send me an email.

Franktrain it’s amazing that your part has gone 70-ish years without ever being installed! Wow.

Gandydancer, it seems like you’d be better off with the whole mechanism rather than fighting to change just your drum. Is the problem where the drum contacts are dirty?

I bought it at Madison Hardware Detroit when they were clearing out everything. I picked up two and never had to use them. So they must have been well designed, I never had to replace one just clean them up.

Yep, the stuff from the 50s and 60s are amazing. My original 671 locomotive runs like a champ. I’ve had to replace wires due to the insulation cracking, the light bulb, and the smoke unit. Luckily the smoke units are still readily available. The motor and all the parts are still going strong.

Actually I think the 671 may have been built in the late 40s, so it’s older than me!

Sam Jumper you may be right but I'm going to try. The problem seems to be that the drum is worn and doesn't "catch" consistently.
