Since it was in the latest catalog and pre orders were just due last month I suspect the earliest we'll see it is mid 2021 as long as the pandemic hasn't pushed it back. The items on the 2020 volume 2 are not even listed on the shipping schedule yet. I am waiting to see how it turns out. It looks amazing.
As a rule of thumb, items in a Lionel volume 1 catalogue tend to arrive in stores around Thanksgiving or in time for Christmas of the same year (of the catalogue). Items in a Lionel volume 2 catalogue tend to arrive one year after the catalogue publication (i.e. during summer). Exceptions tend to be later rather than earlier.
Ron Sohn - It's my understanding the first two digits of Lionel's relatively new item numbering system indicates the year in which delivery is anticipated, so that would be 2021 for this particular engine. But then, as others have mentioned, all bets are off because of COVID-19. So be patient (which is a virtue), and catch it if you can! (I'll let you complete the rest of that old saying - lol)
