I was wonder whether the new Lionel Sensor car would work with older tmcc locomotives? While it does have newer electronics, wouldn't it still work with older engines if it was programed as the same thing.

The sensor car does work with TMCC engines BUT to get it to sound the whistle/horn or other sounds, these must be made as a recording when using the sensor track.  The "pre-programmed" actions that come with the sensor track are sent out as Legacy commands.  TMCC engines won't respond to them.

As John said they are played out in the same time frame you entered them.  One thing to be aware of, to make any recording repeatable, you must enter the sensor track for playback at the same speed you entered it when recording.  That's why I typically use Lionel's RR speeds to set the speed before recording so I can repeat that speed for playback.  And if I plan on doing a loop, my last command in the recording is to set the RR speed to the speed I used to enter the recording.
