The LIRR RS3: did they see commuter duty in the 60s? Were these the engines repainted for World's Fair livery? Thank you--I'm afraid I don't have the LIRR reference books!

I belive the blue stripe was only used on the 2 rs-2 engines, but the rs-3s and rs-2s were used both in passenger and freight service.
The RS3s went through the cycle as delivered grey body orange ends then world's fair, and later MTA blue and yellow paint schemes.
The engines in that paint scheme were actually RS-2's acquired second hand by the LIRR. They were used in East End service. I don't think they were used in the daily commuter service on any of the lines.
The LIRR has a group of Heavyweight cars that were decorated the same. The RS-2s were acquired from the Delaware and Hudson Railroad . They were used for the East End ie Montauk extra fare service in the early 1960s. Think they received worlds fair sweep colors in Mid 60s before MTA took over.

Never seen one in operation, only in books. Traveled to Hicksville all through the 60's, never seen one. It wouldn't fit a lash up with that old scheme either.
I think this scheme was very short lived, probably done into the sweep when the Centuries arrivied. The Centuries would have also displaced this pair for the East End deluxe service as well.
Looking forward to the Tichy version just announced in the new MTH 2020 Vol 2 catalog.
I'm no expert but the Dash 8 did not exist when the LIRR was using that paint scheme. When the 8 came out in the 80's the LIRR was all blue and white MTA colors.

So probably a fantasy paint scheme in WF colors.
Ah, yes. From the website: "Since 1997, freight service on the LIRR has been operated under contract by the New York & Atlantic Railway, connecting to the mainland via CSX’s ex-New Haven tracks over the famed **** Gate Bridge. Our Long Island version of the ES44AC allows you to model an alternate universe, in which the Route of the Dashing Commuter still operates its own freight service, running 21st century locomotives painted in its classic “Goodfellow colors” first introduced in the mid-1950s."
What I really need is an RS1, but sadly can't find one.
Thanks, all! I'll keep looking; someday MTH 30-20080-1 may come up for sale, or be re-released.

Silly fantasy model, never happened. I would be surprised if they ever sold one? RS-3 question?
MTH did release bith the RS-3 and RS-1 in both the sweep scheme and the goodfellow colors . All of these produced within the last 5 years. LIRR stuff can be hard to find after as new old stock.

I'd really like to find 30-20080-1. How hard is it to swap out sound files if I found a freight sound version? Can an MTH tech do it for me?

That number is the RS1 It comes with Passenger sounds If you wanted freight sounds you can use the RS3 #30-20456-1 sound file Its very easy to do You can do it yourself Just download the Consumer Loader and the file
The consumer loader can be found here https://mthtrains.com/dcs-software-downloads To download the sound file search on the engine number you want to use the file from Go to support Then click the icon on the bottom that says protosound

Thank you. I don't run full dcs. I have the limited versions, so I'll need to find a tech that can make the swap. Nice to know it's easy to do!
Your on the wrong side of the country or I would do it for you

One problem about doing that is that your RS-1 will sound like an RS-3. RS-1's had the 539 6 cylinder turbo prime mover, while the RS-3 had the 244 12 cylinder turbo prime mover. So the two engines sound nothing alike.
