Darn!

If that's it, I will probably have to take part in the insanity of trying to get a couple to go with the other 4 parade cars.

Thanks for the pic.  Maybe if we are lucky, it will actually be easier to obtain these.  (i.e., clerks knowing what the heck they are, knowing if only a few stores actually got them, knowing which department they should be in (hopefully the same everywhere), etc.)

No luck with the coupon codes thus far.  I tried the one Macy's sent me in an email, as well as the one ADX ROB posted above.  Both times, I got an error message indicating the contents of my shopping cart do not qualify for the discount.    Seems the fine print indicates "select licensed departments" (among many other items) are excluded.

Oh well, it's still early in the season... so I'll wait for more generous, less-restrictive coupons before spending $70+ willy-nilly.  I'm not super crazy about the design -- seems to be missing a bit of something... like somebody started the design but didn't quite finish it.   But I'll admit it does coordinate nicely with the parade cars from 2006-2008.  Also nice that it's available directly online -- like last years car.

Just got a new email from Macy's today - try coupon code VOTE. Should be 20% off.

I just gave it a try, it says the 20% is not valid on this item. (but thanks for posting.. was worth a try!)

We were at Macy's Herald Square Saturday morning before returning to Massachusetts from a Brooklyn conference.

Before I could say anything my wife asked the first sales clerk she saw (in the cosmetics department) about the car and we were directed to the 9th floor Christmas Shop near where Santa will be. The staff there immediately took us to the Lionel Train Display - just 3 loops, nothing running but some sound coming from the units. There were a wide variety of Lionchief sets available. There was a display with about 50 of this year's boxcars on it.

Just ordered  mine. I  downloaded the app got free shipping  and with the 25% off car cost me $55.77 made it easier to added it my Thanksgiving  cars.

Thanks everyone  for the heads up on car and info.

Nice job MACY'S !!! That was easy-peezee! Much better than years past having to track things down!!!

Macy's seems to be one of the few companies remaining who TRULY understand customer service.  Long story short... I downloaded the iPhone app, but didn't get the 25% discount when I added the car to my cart.  I called the 800-number, and the automated system's second prompt gave me the option to speak with a customer service rep.  Contrast that to the other day, when I called a bank-card company, and there must have been 5 levels of gibberish automated choices before I was able to get to a "live person".

When I spoke to the Macy's rep, she was friendly, pleasant, and she actually spoke understandable ENGLISH.  We quickly concluded that the system didn't give me the 25% discount, because I was using an existing Macy's online profile -- probably something I created last year when I purchased the 2015 boxcar.  So even though I had never used the iPhone app before, the system was getting hung up on my using an existing Macy's email account/profile.  Bottom line... she took my order over the phone AND gave me the 25% discount as a courtesy.  Now THAT's how customer service should always work.    Unfortunately, most companies today are making it nearly impossible to reach pleasant-sounding, easily-understandable human beings at the other end of the phone line.  Heck, some companies don't even publish a customer service phone number anymore!

P.S.  In slightly over 12 hours from placing my order, I received an email with UPS tracking info that the order had shipped.  Nice!!!

Always interesting to see the "why's-and-wherefore's" as to how these boxcars are distributed.  As long as they're still available online, that's by far the most painless way to grab one (or more) of these boxcars this year.  But I'm still curious to see if any show up at local Macy's stores around Philadelphia.  In prior years, I recall folks getting a print-out from a friendly Macy's store clerk that showed how many of these cars were at various Macy's store locations across the country.  Of course in those days it was more critical to have that info, since the boxcars weren't readily available online.

Fun memories -- albeit a bit taxing on car mileage!!!

I learned where way too many Macy's locations were in my area in those years.  (until 2009, when I ordered them from a store in Chicago, IIRC, when a forum member here mentioned they had them and were willing to take phone orders.)

I ordered one on Saturday.  I got free shipping (as it was over $50) plus 20% off from a coupon code my wife had.   Final price $59.99.   The price is still kinda hard to stomach (my receipts from the '07-'09 cars show that they were $40!), but I have all of the Lionel Macy's parade boxcars, plus the two from MTH which focused on the NYC flagship store.  This car is shipping across country- from California to me here in the Mid-Atlantic, but I will post photos once if it arrives... if no one else posts first.   Happy Thanksgiving!!!

If anyone was still looking to pick one of these up, I see it is included in a general 20% off sale on the Macy's site today (no special codes, etc.), but if you just buy one free shipping doesn't seem to apply (when I entered quantity 2, shipping became free on the checkout screen, probably based on total $ for the order).

Thanks guys, I knew I would find good info here!  Just ordered two, 20% off at Macy's website, plus another $25 off using my Macy's card.  Lost the free shipping since it needed to be over $100, but I wasn't going to spend another $20 to save $10, LOL.   Much less stressful than in years past.  For what it's worth, the Philadelphia Macy's store shows that they have a display and they are available for pickup for those of you that like to venture into the city.

Glad it helped.

I did note after typing and re-figuring that even though the sale says 20%, it's actually 25% for the boxcar (52.49/69.99 = 0.75 or 25% off).  Not that I'm complaining!

Interesting on the Philly store part (not that I'm really looking for a field trip down there).  I typed both my zip and a local large town into the "finder" along with bumping the search zone up to 100 miles and it doesn't tell me about Philly here in lower Bucks County.

I did'nt see them in Philadelphia a few days ago.  I was in the city and walked through the store.  They're ready for Christmas. I'm going to make a phone call to see if they are still there and pick the car up.  I used to buy trains there when I was young and it was Wanamakers.  Attached are some pictures from my trip the other day.  RT 13 was my number to get home (many years ago). I loved those cars and talking to the motormen about operating them and the signals in the subway...these trolleys used to stop right at Wanamakers basement..

Interesting, this morning it showed the Philly store, now it doesn't.  It doesn't even show the Herald Square store in NY as having them with the 100 mile search.  Last year after Christmas, our family made the annual trip to Philly and I was surprised to see a few remaining 2015 boxcars marked 50% off.  With the additional card discount I think I ended up paying $25.  I'll be keeping my eyes open for another this year, but I think this one will prove more popular.

Haven't gotten around to posting a photo yet, but mine came from California too... Macy's Union Square in San Francisco.  So much for logistics.... North Carolina (Lionel) to California (Macy's)... and now to Pennsylvania (me).  This car has already seen more mileage than I'll probably ever put on it when this train hits the tracks on my layout around Thanksgiving and Christmastime!!!    But it's better than driving around to all the local Macy's stores like we did 10 years ago to find them!!!

Dave, possibly you entered an incorrect zip code? Your profile shows you're in Bensalem, PA but you list a 20001 zip code rather than Bensalem's 19020.

Thanks for noticing, but I am well aware of my real zip code... .  I am just of the cautious type who doesn't like to leave a lot of information for some automated script to harvest, even if it doesn't directly include my SS#, full address, or birthday.

Unless you really believe all the recent "new members" with screen names of the nature of "john_doe_111816", "imabot_112116" etc are all real people.  I suspect other motives.   If not, it's a major coincidence so many people are electing to end their screen name with a six digit number corresponding to the join date in the mmddyy format over at least the last few weeks.

Sorry.  Drifted off topic.  I used several local zip codes when searching Macys.com.
