The worm and drive gears are different in this loco, coarser and larger, than an original PW 736 or the 726 6-38338 from 2012. Lionel lists the same part number for the motor from the newer 736 and 726 having only the motor for the 726 in stock .Does anyone have a lead on where the correct motor can be found?

Luke I'm curious, what's the gear ratio of your loco?  (I guess I never realized they changed things from the earlier reissues.)

Can you make the motor on the 31757 turn by turning the wheels?  If so, you can determine the gear ratio by counting the poles as they pass by, then divide by 3.  Please post what you found out.

They probably used different tooling because of Chinese factory closings .
I obtained the 736 chassis from Lionel because one of my customers had
bought the 726 and it didn't have magnetraction . We never thought the chassis
and motors would be different, but they are .

Thanks,
