By "not saving" do you mean that the engine cannot be found at the OLD address and must be re-added and it increments up a number?

PS2 and PS3 require the working battery or capacitor storage system to power the processor during the power down sequence and that is ALSO when the processor in the engine stores the ID into more permanent memory.

Thus, off the cuff, you need to check or replace your battery.

I mostly replace with a BCR, however if the charging circuit isn't working from a previously dead shorted battery then a BCR won't charge up and work. A charged battery would mask the fact the charging circuit had failed until it finally discharges and stops working.

So again, it's a working subsystem of both charging and the powering the processor that must happen in order for the system to work properly.

The test is, how long does sounds play after cutting power? Do they stop abruptly after track power is removed? Life span of batteries is roughly 5 years. It might still work but be on borrowed time. Battery voltage is one thing, but battery voltage under load is what really matters and that can be harder to read externally and would be done during the power loss from the track test.

Yes, if 2 engines have the same ID number, I have seen confusion with the app or the DCS remote. This happens when more than one remote is used or app + remote as they store their own database.

Remember, Lionel stores the engine database in the CAB or Legacy Base.

MTH stores the engine info database in the remote or app, not in the TIU. Thus, if you use more than one remote or app on a device, each one could have different and conflicting databases.

In both systems, the engine also stores an ID to listen for commands, part of the program sequence on Lionel engines and the Add Engine sequence on MTH.

As a side conversation, there was or is no conversion I am aware of for a saved database from an MTH DCS remote and a saved database backup from the app. In other words, you can "clone" a remote to a remote, or an app to another device and the app, but not remote to app or app to remote. @MTH RD

This is one of those projects I intended to look at some day, figure out if there is a way to make that happen.
