Looking for help on coupler selection for my scale wheel MTH Norfolk Southern F units. I don't want to change all my passenger cars over to Scale couplers, but I'm thinking I need a transition car or can I mount a dummy O gauge coupler on the F units and call it a day? I will be changing the wheel sets to o gauge flange and should be safe running 063 and 072 curves, MTH calls for 31" radius. I really like the look of fixed pilots and just need some guidance on what direction to go.

Thanks

Brandon

I have not mounted KDs on that engine. I have on a lot of modern ones. The short box KDs work on most without any mods.

You can use the regular longer boxed ones and may need to cut off the back for clearance.

I recommend using plastic boxed ones or all plastic to prevent any shorts.

There have been many posts here about doing this to MTH engines. Maybe a search will help?

Joe, I think he is saying that he wants to put the large Lionel type coupler on the front and rear of the locomotives so that he doesn't have to convert his passenger train to scale couplers.

Correct I don't want to change them all but if I have to I will. Will the 806 Kadee work with 063 and 072 curves or do I need to stick with the 804?

806 should work on 072, not sure about 063. If you use some sort of transition car, try using one of the newer 746 or 740 couplers. They have longer shanks and should help with those 063 curves.

BTW: I was one of those people who didn't think they would want to convert their rolling stock to Kadees and now I LOVE THEM and have converted most of the cars I run regularly.  Can't say enough how much I enjoy using them.
