I got this one earlier this week, I figured I post it in case someone was curious. Really happy with it, runs smooth at 2smph and the sounds are great. The last pic is out of the box, notice that the horn (?) didn't came painted in gold so I had to fix that, I also weathered the couplers slightly and added the front hoses. I'm not a fan of the huge steps on the back of the tender but oh well the world isn't perfect.

MTH offered this engine in G scale too. I have passed on it several times now. I was focused on modern diesels in both scales. The more I see it, the more I regret passing. Even with the flaws mentioned, it's a sharp looking engine to me. It would look good on my O scale layout. I saw the red white and blue version too.

 Now if I had a spare thousand to bid on the few mint G scale ones left around....

When he said brake hoses I immediately thought of the air hoses that indeed are on the pilot.  However, looking at the photos, they appear to be there.

 

So I guess nobody else cares enough to even look at the boiler belly?  The most sinful boilers were K-Line, where they just unwrapped them, leaving skirts.  A very feminine thing to do to a locomotive.

I assume you mean "brake shoes on the ENGINE TRUCK" and not the "pilot". I would think that brake shoes and brake hangers would look sort of funny mounted anyplace on a locomotive pilot.

I was speaking about the two hoses that he added in picture one.

SANTIAGO, thanks for the video.  My scale wheeled GS-4, same version as yours,  just arrived and I'm getting familiar with it running 2 rail DCC at home.  Will have to wait until our next club show to run it 3 rail DCS.  

 

Are you controlling it with DCS or DCC?  Reason I ask is only a reprint partial manual came in the box.  I queried MTH and they replied that the full manual is not yet available on line but is expected "soon."  If DCC how did you get the "fog horn" to blow?  

 

I have an earlier MTH daylight Aux water tender DLMX 4219 and it looks really good behind the new GS-4.  I'm in the process of converting it to scale wheels and Kadees and LED lighting which I hope to operate via a tether to the tender backup light same as I did for my Sunset UP black and yellow/gray Aux Water Tenders for use behind my Sunset UP 844.  We'll see.
