    Good evening,

    I'm hoping someone can help me out with these MTH power supply boards?

   My main questions are;  Do they use A/C from the track (+ center rail) or from the MTH PS1 Board?  Are they designed to use with LED or incandescent lights?  What is the normal voltage output? Lastly, Can they be transplanted into a DCS 3 rail MTH Engine PS-2 and up without creating signal interference?

All of those modules run on track power and output 6VDC, check the regulator on them, it's a 6V regulator.  They're purpose designed to run the 6V incandescent bulbs.  The larger models also have an LED output with a current limiting resistor.

Putting any of these in a PS/2 or PS/3 locomotive requires you add a 22uh choke to the track power feed to the module or it'll kill your DCS signal.

    I have been meaning to ask you, what is the name of your shop?

   Can these little boards be used by adding a inductor and the required resistors to use in a DCS environment? Keep in mind I also use the Lionel CAB-2 as my main controller.

   Or would I be better off by throwing that idea in the scrap can and use a aftermarket board instead? My engine has six forward facing headlights along with two main headlights. I want to convert the lights to all LED keeping the six lights separate from the two main headlights.

What would control the six headlights?  Are you looking to just leave them on all the time?  If so, for command operation, you could do the job with a resistor and the LED's from track power.   Just put three of them in series and the other three the opposite polarity in series.  Connect these two strings in parallel and add a 330 ohm 1/4w resistor in the power feed.

All of the supplies he showed had a diode bridge and a filter cap, so I would think you would want the 22uh inductor for any of those.

Given that you have a resistor in series with these, I see no reason for any fuse, the 330 ohm resistor is your "fuse" if it becomes necessary.
