I have a mth SD40-2 with ps 2. I charged the battery and put the engine on the track and started it up. I have bell, horn, cab chatter but no engine sound. I sound like there is a faint sound but not very audible. Any suggestions where to start? I thought maybe it needed a new speaker but not sure.

i also have a mth AC6000 that runs but has no sound at all. I tried doing a factory reset on both engines but to no avail no changes in sound. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Glenn

Usually a feature reset will restore the sounds, What else controls the sounds? there's the sound menu where you can set the volume for each item , bell, horn. engine  etc. Also the volume control  hard key on remote and the  on/off hard key. A good battery is required to have any change you make  stick with the engine.  good luck.

Glenn,  You can inspect the speaker and it the metal coating around the magnet is flaking or has a gray powder on it, I would say it is a speaker issue.  Some deteriorate to the point of muffling certain sounds and others won't produce any.

If your speakers look like that, replace them.  After that if the AC6000 has no sounds the audio amp needs to be replaced.

I have done this for several of the AC6000.   G

Glenn,  I can sell you one.  I also can do it for you, but shipping is more expensive than the repair.  I can sell a speaker with the lead pre soldered.  You just unscrew fuel tank, unplug speaker and install new one.  You may have to take shell off to get to the connector.  My e-mail is in my profile.  G
