I feel really stupid, but I must be doing something very obvious ( to everyone else but me) that is getting this wrong.
I have the new Conrail Legacy F7 ABBA set. I changed the ID from 99 to another number. It now no longer comes up in legacy mode. It only comes up in TMCC mode.
What have I done?
This is where I really need Max, my tech guru........but alas, he lives in Charlottesville with my son......and won't be back till Christmas.....

I'm assume this is a lashup and have set it up as a TR in your Cab2. Pull up the Info screen for each engine and see if under Control it says TMCC or Legacy. If TMCC change it to Legacy. Then check the TR Info screen and see if it says TMCC or Legacy. If it says TMCC change the control setting to Legacy.

AFAIK, that's impossible to do. There is no mode setting I know of to suddenly remove the capability of running in Legacy mode.
Of course, the actual product number would be useful here, but I do have one question. Have you tried a different Legacy locomotive? Maybe it's something about the environment.

Agree with trying this.
If you had it programmed for one address and change it to a blank one, the Legacy system has no settings stored for that address and it defaults to TMCC unless told otherwise.
Press the info button for the new address and scroll over with the red knob until you can change the control from "TMCC" to "LEG"
