I've read through the "New Features" and "Fixes" for the 5.0 release, and IF I don't have any plans for WIFI applications, is there any need or advantage of doing the upgrade?

The only advantage that I can identify is staying current, (which is advantageous).  But, there always seems a means of resoloving that if I needed to in the future.  Can't see any reason why I should proceed with the upgrade.  If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Am I missing anything?

Thanks

Uh oh. That is interesting. I always wondered what you had eluded to about the bug.

We think the bug hit us a couple of weeks ago. We have six running on the layout. One TIU suddenly stopped working. We swapped it out with a spare. After finding out about this bug, I did some testing to make sure that 4.3 remotes will work with 5.0 TIUs and plan to upgrade the layout TIUs this week.

That doesn't sound like the bug.

The bug arrives immediately after upgrading to 4.30 when in Super TIU mode, and disables only one channel, although that channel will still issue a watchdog signal.

Interesting. When we dropped the power and brought it back up, the TIU flashed the proper address code and sent the watchdog but no commands went to the engine. It's kinda moot anyway since we've bought replacements for all of the TIUs as a couple of them are over 10 years old, but I'm going to put it on the bench just to see what's up.

However, if it's only 1 channel and the channel comes back under Normal TIU mode, it is the bug and upgrading to DCS 5.0 should correct the problem.

There was only one channel connected on that TIU, so I'll see what it does on the bench. What has been interesting is that, despite super TIU bugs (and questionable wiring in some areas) our layout has operated well under DCS for more than a decade

Thanks.
